As the Thanksgiving holiday nears, the officers from Illinois State Police District 13 hope that travelers will keep their minds on their driving and not on the turkey and the trimmings.
This holds especially true for buckling up, regardless of whether someone is driving across town or across the state.
During the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend, ISP District 13 troopers will once again be participating in the “Stay Alive on the I’s” enforcement campaign.
The enforcement initiative will occur from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30.
During these times, the Illinois State Police will have a trooper assigned every 10 miles of interstate throughout the state.
Troopers working this detail will focus on the “Fatal Five” traffic violations. These violations are the greatest contributors to traffic crash fatalities and include DUI, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, following too closely and improper lane usage.
In addition to the “Fatal Five” violations, special attention will be given to violations of “Scott’s Law” (the “move over” law), which requires motorists to slow down, move over and proceed with caution when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle or maintenance vehicle.
The Illinois State Police remind drivers: Don’t stick your neck out this Thanksgiving; remember to drive carefully and defensively. Don’t drive impaired and, most importantly, buckle up each and every trip.
