Over the weekend of Oct. 3 and 4, members of the Benton Lions Club will be on the Benton Public Square and at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in West City to collect donations for candy in a fund-raising effort to support the Lions Club charities.

The Benton Lions Club provides support for many people with eyeglasses and hearing aids. The club also provides college scholarships to local students. In addition, the club makes an annual donation to the Lions of Illinois Foundation. This foundation represents more than 20,000 members in about 600 Lions Clubs in Illinois.

The club meets Thursdays at noon at the Franklin Hospital board room and is open to membership to those interested in serving the community.

For more information about the Benton Lions Club, contact one of its officers: president, Dave Severin; vice president, Joe Kaak; secretary, John Metzger; or treasurer, Bill Dixon. Candy Day 2008 chairperson is Terry Swift.
