Turkey and all of the trimmings, music by Benton Middle School choir and Benton Consolidated High School Madrigal Singers, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and animal balloons — these and more were part of the annual Kiwanis Division 33 Christmas party for special needs populations, held Tuesday at the Benton Civic Center.

Dave Webster, Benton Kiwanis Club treasurer, said the annual Fun Day Christmas party brought more than 800 people out on a cloudy, rainy day.

“Young children are the number one priority of Kiwanians throughout Southern Illinois,” Webster said. “We had volunteers from all of Division 33 to help serve the meal.”

Division 33 includes the communities of Benton, Carmi, Du Quoin, Fairfield, Flora, Mt. Carmel, Mt. Vernon, McLeansboro, Salem and West Frankfort.

“As always, everyone had a wonderful time, from the food to photos with Santa and the balloons provided by the Jefferson County Krazy Klowns. We could not do this annual event without the help of all of our loyal volunteers,” he added.
