Benton, Ill. -

The concrete block foundation has been completed and more volunteers are needed to complete the Franklin County Habitat for Humanity home being built in Benton. Members of the Marion and Benton Church of Nazarene completed the work on Friday, with the family who will live in the home applying sweat equity to the project.
Bud Montgomery of Benton said all types of skilled labor is required to finish the home for its new occupants.
“We hope to have a good work force,” he said. “The homeowner, Melissa A. Roberts of Thompsonville, has also been here and has put in about 25 hours of sweat equity into her home. The owner must complete 300 hours of labor to the project. Barry Richardson installed the water line early Friday morning.
“We are trying to get Melissa and her two sons into the home by Christmas and hopefully by Thanksgiving,” Montgomery said. “People with the Big Muddy Correctional Facility are constructing the walls. We will take material there for them to build the trusses when we pick up the walls.”
Work is needed to help with the sub floor, sidewalks and porches, to install the walls, trusses, decking, wiring, plumbing, insulation, drywall installation, floors, windows, roofing, interior trim and doors, install bathroom facilities, lighting, landscaping and clean up.
Montgomery said a call bank is being established to get work crews ready. For more information, contact David Goss at 927-2572 or 629-2155, or by e-mail at nagoss@yahoo.com, or call Montgomery at 435-2742. Monetary contributions to purchase needed materials may be mailed to Franklin County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 34, Benton, IL 62812.
