In Illinois, more than 200,000 children live in a grandparent-headed household. If your agency, organization, school or place of worship works with grandparents who are raising grandchildren, you are invited to a Parenting Again training sponsored by University of Illinois Extension, Franklin County.

This training covers important issues that affect “parenting grandparents” and is designed for both new and tenured support group leaders. You will receive a curriculum with discussion guides and handouts. You’ll also get ideas for strengthening your facilitation skills, and you’ll learn about local resources that can assist grandparents.

The training prepares you to present and lead group discussion on these topics:
• Adjusting to Your Role
• Taking Care of You
• Reducing Stress in Your Life
• Changes in Personal Relationships
• Being a Grandparent and Parent
• Challenges With Your Adult Child
• Your Troubled Grandchild
• Love and Limits: A Powerful Combination
• Forgiveness

The Parenting Again training runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 22 at U of I Extension, 1212 Rt. 14 West, Benton.

Cost for the first 22 registrants is $20 per person, thanks to scholarships provided by a Brookdale Foundation Grant through the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Coalition of Southern Illinois. After those slots are filled, the cost is $65 per person. Registration for the second or third person attending from the same organization is $5. Pre-registration is required.

For more details and to register, log on to franklin.extension.uiuc.edu. Or call (618) 453-5563. Other dates/locations are available.
