Sesser man dies in 1-car crash

Franklin County, Ill. -

A Sesser man was fatally injured early Sunday morning in a single-car accident in rural Franklin County southeast of Sesser.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said Cecil Kent Eubanks, 42, was killed when his car left Peach Orchard Road, 1/4-mile east of Sesser Lake Road.

A passerby came upon the crash scene around 3:15 a.m.

According to the sheriff’s department report, Eubanks’ pickup truck was westbound when it left the roadway on the north side. The pickup appeared to have struck an embankment, went airborne and overturned. The driver was thrown from the wreckage.

In other reports:

• A sheriff’s deputy serving warrants on two teenage girls Friday evening ended up writing additional underage consumption tickets against the pair.

Deputies went to the rural Benton residence at 10:15 p.m. Friday to serve the warrants against the two teens, identified as Kelly N. Robles and Kristen L. Knapp. The warrant stemmed from an incident in early September.

After taking the pair to the Franklin County Jail, deputies noticed alcohol on the breath of the two girls. They were administered break alcohol tests, which confirmed that they had been drinking.
Robles and Knapp were ticketed for underage consumption of alcohol.

• An Orient man was injured Friday when he lost control of his ATV in Orient and was thrown into a wooded area.

Jason A. Crowder, 26, was taken by West Frankfort Fire Department ambulance to Franklin Hospital in Benton for treatment of injuries.

Crowder told authorities that he was riding to a wooded area near Orient when he lost control in gravel.

Crowder was ticketed for improper operation of an ATV.

• Shelly Watkins of West Frankfort was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol following a single-vehicle accident on Illinois Route 149 in rural Franklin County.

Watkins was eastbound on 149 when she lost control, left the roadway and hit a culvert. Her car overturned and hit a tree.

Watkins, 36, complained of a shoulder injury but did not require treatment. Her two children were passengers in the car but were not injured.

In addition to the ticket for DUI, Watkins was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
