A Mulkeytown man suffered major injuries in a two-motorcycle crash at 1:32 p.m. Monday.

James Lee Carpenter, 46, was taken to the Herrin Hospital and later flown to a St. Louis hospital with injuries suffered in the accident.

According to the Illinois State Police, Carpenter was driving a motorcycle southbound on Route 148 at Linden Street in Zeigler.

Carpenter slowed the vehicle when a car ahead of him was turning, applied too much brake and lost control — side-swiping a motorcyle driven by Michael Mason, 38, of Christopher, who was traveling beside Carpenter.

Mason was not injured.

Both motorcycles received major damage and were towed to Black Diamond Harley-Davidson in Marion.
