Rob the renegade rooster was returned to his rightful owners Monday evening.

Benton Police Chief Mike O’Neill released Rob to Jason, Travis and Alyssa Seddon of Benton around 5:30 p.m., just outside the police station.

“No bond was set,” O’Neill said, “but Rob was given a notice to appear.”

Rob spent the afternoon in a dog cage after being taken into custody late Monday morning.

According to the police report, a woman said she was pulling children in a wagon near the intersection of Grayson and Ninth streets when the rooster approached and would not let them pass.

The Seddons said Rob and Nugget, a hen, are their pets.

“We’ve had them since last spring. Rob is really friendly,” Alyssa Seddon said.

O’Neill pointed out, however, that poultry are not allowed to be kept inside city limits — which means Rob and Nugget will be taken out to the country to stay with the Seddons’ grandparents.

“I’m going to miss his crowing,” Alyssa Seddon said. “I love it!”
