Wesley T. Wideman, 37, of rural West Frankfort was arrested at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of aggravated child pornography. Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Captain Don Jones said the charge is considered a Class X felony.
Wideman was arrested on Nov. 25, 2009 and charged with unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm. Jones said investigation into the case led to information about the child pornography case, which prompted a search warrant and Wideman’s subsequent arrest.
Wideman remains in the Franklin County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
Jones said the Southern Illinois Cyber Crime Unit investigated the case. He said the crime unit is comprised of members of different departments and is under the umbrella of the United States Secret Service.
Jones said members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Benton Police Department conducted the investigation.
