Capt. Don Jones of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office report that three weekend traffic crashes sent residents to various hospitals.
• Jimmie D. Moake, 75, of Marion was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he rear-ended a vehicle being driven by Michael S. Wall, 28, of Logan.
The crash occurred at 5:31 p.m. Sunday on Route 149 at Logan Road, as Wall was attempting to make a turn. Moake’s vehicle struck the vehicle that Wall was driving from behind as Wall attempted to make the turn.
• At 3:28 p.m. Sunday, Colt W. Rowland, 16, of Pinckneyville was southbound on Log Cabin Road approximately 400 feet south of Tucker Road when the vehicle he was driving ran off the roadway.
Rowland overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll over several times.
Rowland was not injured, but all five passengers received injuries. Kailee H. Rowland, 18, of Pinckneyville was air-evacuated from the scene and transported to a St. Louis area hospital.
Jared I. Whipple, 21, of Belle Rive was transported by Linton Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Darcie D. Mays, 16, of Belle Rive was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by Cardinal EMS ambulance. Katrina E. Worthington, 16, of Sparta was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by Linton Ambulance. Leah R. Mays, 16, of Belle Rive was airlifted from the scene and transported to a St. Louis area hospital.
Colt Rowland was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, violation of the graduated driver's law of having more than one passenger under the age of 20 in his vehicle and failure to secure passengers under the age of 18 in seat belt restraints.
• A traffic crash that occurred at 5:12 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Highway 14 with Water Road injured passengers in two vehicles.
Justin K. Basenberg, 21, of Buckner was not injured after the vehicle he was driving made a left turn in front of a vehicle driven by Julia Leon, 24, of Zeigler. Leon was also not injured, but a passenger, Bryan L. Burnett, 5, of Zeigler, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
A passenger in Basenberg's vehicle, Jessica E. Dean, 22, of Buckner, received injuries and was transported to Franklin Hospital by Cardinal EMS.
Another passenger in Basenberg's vehicle, Clayton A. Chwarczinski, 18, of Buckner, was transported by Cardinal EMS to Franklin Hospital.
Justin Basenberg was ticketed for failure to yield.
Leon said she saw Basenberg attempt to turn in front of her vehicle but could not stop in time to avoid the crash.
