Franklin County Sheriff Bill Wilson reports that the Illinois Sheriffs' Association will award more than $53,000 in college scholarships to students wishing to pursue higher education through the 2010-11 academic year.
Students must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state.
Wilson said he would be awarding one $500 scholarship.
"There are no restrictions on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin," he said. "Scholarships must be used at Illinois institutions of higher learning. Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2010-11 school year with the exception of the summer session."
Wilson said applications are available at local sheriff's offices or on the Internet at www.ilsheriff.org.
"Fill out the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, 403 E. Main St., Benton, IL 62812 before April 12, 2010," Wilson said.
