Dorothy Elizabeth Berger, 92, of Du Quoin, Illinois, passed away at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Dorothy was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of Berger's Market.

She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin where she sang in the church choir.

She was born Sept. 11, 1927, at Du Quoin, the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Fritz) Jackson.

Dorothy married Howard Dean Berger on July 13, 1946, at Union City, Tennessee, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2010.

She is survived by her son, Brad (Margaret) Berger of Noblesville, Indiana; daughter, Debbie (David) Martin of Du Quoin; grandchildren, Michael Berger of Nineveh, Indiana, Suzanne (Todd) Mefford of Westfield, Indiana and Cori (Barry) Maynor of Du Quoin; great-grandchildren, Samuel Mefford, Sydney Mefford, Hannah Mefford, Eli Maynor and Max Maynor; sister, Clara Jane (Richard) Smith of Du Quoin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister in infancy.

Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Robert Morwell officiating.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the St. John's United Church of Christ, Perry County Humane Society or the Marshall Browning Tree of Lights, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
