Herrin H.S. honors former Tigers set to deploy

Herrin High School honored former athletes, from left, John Giacone, Kent Sherrel, Tim Downen, Marshall Anderson, and Garrett Lukens on Friday evening prior to the start of the basketball game against Harrisburg. The five former Tigers are among over 400 area soldiers set to deploy as part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel this afternoon after a ceremony at the Banterra Center in Carbondale.

Coach Randy Smithpeters and members of the Harrisburg High School basketball team were among the first to offer best wishes to the former Tigers who will deploy today at part of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The soldiers were honored prior to the start of the game between the Tigers and Bulldogs Friday evening.
