Leslie I. Stoops Sr., 63, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.

Leslie was born on Oct. 20, 1955 in Champaign, Illinois to Leslie Leroy and Velma (Allison) Stoops.

He was retired from Southern Illinois Motor Express where he worked many years as a truck driver.

Leslie was a Christian who enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his beloved family. He especially enjoyed quality time spent with his cherished grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving companion, Carol Caudle of Murphysboro; two children, Leslie "DJ" Stoops and wife Julie and Jenifer Thomas and husband Jonathon, all of Murphysboro; four sisters, Mary Stoops of Los Angeles, California, Lilliana Cooks of California, Peggy (John) Harland of Murphysboro and Diana (Dan) Holmes of Grand Tower, Illinois; three brothers, Michael (Patty) Stoops of Royalton, Ralph Aaron Stoops of Danville and Andrew Stoop of Los Angeles; three grandchildren, Dylan, Rabecca and Lauren Stoops; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Stoops and Tori Lynn who is due in January.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins and his good friend Donnie Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and a grandbaby.

The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Richie Pyatt officiating.

Burial will follow at Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Carbondale.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Thursday, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.
