PERRY COUNTY -- The Beaucoup chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) celebrate the Foundation of America by promoting Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23.

Constitution Week was initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR is a patriotic organization that encourages education and historic preservation in communities around the nation.

Constitution Week was initiated in 1955 by President General, Gertrude S. Carraway, as a way to promote the observance of the U.S. Constitution with a memorial week beginning on the anniversary of the signing of this document. Constitution Week was officially declared by President Eisenhower on Aug. 2, 1956.

A memorial honoring the Constitution is at Constitution Hall in Washington D.C.

The inscription on the pediment reads, "Constitution Hall -- a memorial to that immortal document, the Constitution of the United States, in which are incorporated the principles of freedom, equality and justice for which our forefathers strove."

DAR Constitution Hall is the only structure dedicated to the U.S. Constitution.

The largest patriotic women's organizations in the world, DAR has more than 185,000 members, 3,000 chapters across the country and in foreign countries. DAR strives to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service, and more.
