DU QUOIN -- Because of construction work being done to the city's overpass, the annual Du Quoin High School Homecoming Parade -- set for Thursday, Sept. 26, this year -- will be rerouted.

Mayor Guy Alongi announced at the City Council meeting Monday night that the parade traditionally has passed through Main Street, but with the overpass closed, all traffic has been pushed through the downtown area, and it would not be logical to close Main Street for that reason.

The new parade route will start at the high school and proceed east on South Sreet, onward to North Line Street, and then west on East Park Street before moving to North Division Street, wrapping up at the southwest corner of Keyes Park.

The mayor also announced that the Halloween Parade is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 and would have access to Main street by that time. The parade will start at Banterra Bank on Main and proceed through the downtown area to Keyes Park.

Also, Trunk or Treat in downtown Du Quoin is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and regular Trick-or-Treat days are that same Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 31 (6-8:30 p.m.).
