HARRISBURG -- Members of the Country Friends Homemakers Education Association Unit welcomed members of the Pleasant Valley Go-getters 4-H Club at their August 2017 meeting.

4-H'ers visiting the unit were Claire Ellis, Kate Ellis, Skylar Perkins, Rachel Lands, and Ericka Stubblefield.

The unit had a crash course on some neat projects given by 4-H'ers from the "Pleasant Valley Go Getters". We learned about Government, Entomology -- The 10 most Deadly Insects, Visual arts -- Paper, Electricity, Market Annimals -- Fleming Giant Rabbits, and beautiful "Silkie Chickens" that we had never seen before. Each one had won ribbons on their projects -- blue ribbons, Champion Ribbons and with some State Fair ribbons sprinkled in as well.

The program was really enjoyed by the unit. We can't wait until next year and see how the baby "silkies" are grown chickens.

Bonnie Absher donated a handmade quilt for the unit to use as a fundraiser this year. It will be on display at the Heritage Festival at Southeastern Illinois College the weekend of Nov. 2 and 3. Look for our booth in the lobby just outside the gymnasium.

The People's Favorite Chicken and Dumpling Dinner is planned for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Harris-Pruett Building in Harrisburg. There will be more dumplings available this year, as we ran out last spring. It was a wonderful problem to have such a large crowd, but we were disappointed that we were not able to serve everyone. Hopefully, this year will be better organized to accommodate the crowd and it will run smoother!

Members were reminded about the annual Homemaker's Fall Fest -- Sept. 19, Dorrisville Baptist Church, registration 8:30-9 a.m.

The Sept. 3 6 p.m. meeting will be in Marion with Carletta Hanks hostess. We will meet at Hardees to carpool.
