The City of Chester will pay tribute to current and past military members with the new Hometown Heroes Banner program, recognizing Chester's servicemen and women who have sacrificed, served or given their lives to our country in the Armed Forces.

The nominee must meet the following requirements:

• Lived in the Chester at some point in their life.

• Served in either the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard or Coast Guard.

• Be currently on active duty, be an honorably discharged veteran, or have died in the line of duty.

The banners will be displayed around Chester between Memorial Day and Veterans Day for two years, for a $75 sponsorship. They will be double-sided vinyl and include the honoree's name, branch of service and photograph. Honorees who have died in the line of duty will be designated with a gold star, date of birth and death. Veterans and honorably discharged will be designated with a white star. Active duty will be designated with a blue star.

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come basis and the deadline is Jan. 31, 2020.

Sponsors and donors are being sought. For an application or more information, call Patti at (618) 826-1430 or email to chesterecreation@chesterill.com.
