MARION -- A Williamson County grand jury indicted Jesse R. Martin, 19, of Johnston City, Monday on charges of first-degree murder of an 11-month-old child, and Rochelle Wohlgemuth, 32, of Benton, on charges of child endangerment resulting in the death of that child.

According to State's Attorney Brandon Zanotti, the minor died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head in September of 2017 in Johnston City. The investigation was conducted by the Johnston City Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and the Child Death Task Force.

Martin and Wohlgemuth are both being held in the Williamson County Jail. Martin is being held on a $1 million bond, and Wohlgemuth is being held on a $100,000 bond. Wohlgemuth has other current criminal charges pending, including charges for possession of meth and retail theft.

"This was a very complicated case to present to the grand jury due to many factors, including the length of time of the investigation," Zanotti said.

"Sometimes, cases take time to investigate properly, and I commend the police agencies involved for their thorough work that led to these indictments. We have nothing further to report on these cases at this time."
