MARION -- There are two City Clerks in Marion, until Friday at least. That's when City Clerk Alice Rix will officially retire, after 19 years of service. Her replacement, former Deputy City Clerk, Tammy Beasley, was sworn in by Rix on Monday night at a special Marion City Council meeting.

"First time in history we have two City Clerks at the same time, which is OK," said Mayor Mike Absher.

Rix also swore in a new Deputy City Clerk, Amy Fosse, who will take over Beasley's position in Marion City Hall. Rix gave big hugs to both.

Beasley was hired as Deputy City Clerk in 2011, on the same day Rix was appointed City Clerk. Rix had previously served as assistant City Clerk under Diane Pritchett. A lifelong resident of Marion, Beasley is a graduate of Marion High School, attended John A. Logan College, and graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Accountancy. She worked in public accounting firms and came to specialize in government auditing. That led to her wanting to "switch gears" and she was hired by the Southern Illinois Regional Superintendent of Schools Office, until she got the job in City Hall.

Beasley said she has no big plans to change the operations of the City Clerk's office.

"We just want to continue to serve the public. We wear a lot of hats in this office," she said. "We have a lot of citizens coming in and asking questions. We just want to make sure we get their requests taken care of in a timely matter."
