MARION -- The Marion Cultural and Civic Center will be home to the inaugural Community Safety Fair on Saturday.

The Community Safety Fair is the first of its kind of its kind of what organizers hope will be an annual event in Marion. It is free and to the public.

The purpose of the fair is to bring together a variety of service providers so that Marion and the surrounding communities will become aware of and participate in all aspects of community safety.

The Marion Police Department, Marion Fire Department, Animal Control, U.S. Army, Southern Illinois Healthcare, Heartland Regional Medical Center, Abbott EMS, "Stop the Bleed" and Franklin Williamson Bi-County Health Department will have interactive displays.

Tombstone Gun Range and Training Center will do two presentations in the morning along with the BeSMART gun-safety-in-the-home program by Moms Demand Action.

The BeSMART program will also be offered twice in the afternoon. Face painting, bouncy house and photo opportunities for the children are included. Every hour there will be valuable giveaway items for those who are present.

This event is sponsored by Southern Illinois Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a grass-roots movement of Americans working for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence.

Moms Demand Action is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with over 5 million supporters and more than 350,000 donors.
