Marion police shot and wounded a man who they say refused to drop a weapon Sunday evening on the 2600 block of Ingersoll Lane, Marion.

Lucas K. Johnson, 40, was arrested and taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Marion police news release.

According to Marion Police Chief David Fitts, a female inside the home ran out and called 911, saying Johnson had threatened to kill her.

The news release said that when police arrived they saw Johnson on or near the front porch of his property, holding what appeared to be a shotgun.

Fitts said his officers ordered Johnson several times to put the weapon down, but he refused.

A Marion officer fired a service weapon, striking Johnson and disabling him.

Fitts said witnesses told police that Johnson had fired the shotgun, but it is unclear if he was shooting randomly or at someone. It is not known where Johnson was hit, if he was shot more than once, and if he ever aimed his weapon at officers.

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting is being conducted by the Illinois State Police, which is standard procedure.

The news release said the investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
