Senior Fun Fest offers more than just fun

MARION -- The annual Senior Fun Fest drew over 400 senior citizens throughout Southern Illinois Wednesday to the Marion City Pavilion.

Hosted mainly by area senior social service agencies, the Fun Fest is an event seniors mark on their calendars months in advance. For a mere $5 investment, seniors are treated to a wealth of information on home health services, insurance, assisted living centers and much more and also receive a catered lunch and live entertainment.

Several seniors could be spotted out on the floor dancing to the 1950s and '60s music.

This year's entertainment was provided by the Big Muddy River Band with lead singer Richard Melvin. Dozens of vendors turned out for the event and provided prizes that were raffled off throughout the morning.

This year's theme was "Seniors Gone Wild" and featured a safari decor.
