Tamaroa man charged with multiple offenses

DU QUOIN -- A 22-year-old Tamaroa man is facing multiple charges today after being arrested by the Du Quoin Police Department this past week.

According to a report issued by Chief Les Vancil, Gauge M. Williams was taken into custody at 8:25 a.m. Friday and charged with three counts of disobeying a traffic control device; aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police offices, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The report states that the police department received a call at 11:24 p.m. Thursday, May 16 from a resident reporting a suspicious vehicle. When officers located the vehicle, the suspect fled. The pursuit continued through numerous roads and private properties within the city. Several private properties and items on those properties were damaged by the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle was eventually located in the 400 block of South Walnut Street abandoned. Du Quoin officers, with assistance from Perry County deputies and Illinois State Police, set up a perimeter and searched the area.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was not found immediately. The vehicle was towed and impounded from the area where it was located. The suspect -- Williams -- was located the next morning.
