MARION -- The Marion Unit 2 Education Foundation will host its 29th Annual Spring Banquet Thursday, April 25 at Kokopelli Golf Course. A reception with Hors d'oeuvres gets underway at 6 p.m. followed by a welcome from President David Stotlar and dinner at 6:45. The MHS Jazz Combo will provide musical entertainment throughout the evening.

There will also be a live auction and silent auction to help raise money for the foundation.

Since 1990 when the fundraiser began, about $500,000 has been raised for Unit 2 classroom grants and scholarships for graduating seniors.

"A total of 100 percent of our auction items are donated by our great businesses and individual supporters," said Foundation member and Lincoln School Principal John Fletcher. "We have great community support. And we will have a big funding/gift announcement at the dinner Thursday."

Live auction items up for grabs include: a pair of one-week stays at two different residences at the Lake of Egypt, a one-semester tuition waiver from John A. Logan College, a golden ticket for SIU athletics, which entitles the bearer and one other person to free passage to any and all athletic events; and the Siesta Key Condo, a one-month stay at a condominium in the Florida Keys between August and December valued at more than $5,500. There are also over 30 silent auction items available for bidding.
