MARION -- Lincoln Elementary School students in Marion got their science on Monday at the Second Annual Family STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Night. There were about a dozen different science exhibits on display to the public, including exploding boomerangs, catapults and parachutes, the making of slime, weather simulations, coding robots and engineering high risers and fast movers.

The evening got kick-started in the right direction with a presentation from Mr. Science -- Jason Lindsey -- a television personality who mesmerized his audience with an assortment of scientific tricks, including the lighting of a fire on a table.

"I thought Mr. Science's demonstration went very well tonight. He kind of got everyone excited about our special night," said Lincoln principal John Fletcher. "And we had a nice turnout of parents, family members and friends."

Fletcher said both high school and junior high robotics students lent their assistance to the elementary schoolchildren and their projects.

"Many of our students got a hands-on experience with science, which is what we were hoping for," Fletcher said.

Concessions were also sold during the festivities.
