Du Quoin School Board to hear more about roof bids

DU QUOIN -- The Du Quoin School Board heard a presentation from the district architects Tuesday evening regarding replacement of the K-8 HVAC units. After the presentation, the board authorized the firm to develop bid specifications and documents and to seek bids for the work as outlined in the presentation.

Potential options to replace the roof above the Theobald Gym lobby and storage areas was also discussed. More information will be presented to the board at the next regular meeting.

In other news, Superintendent Gary Kelly reviewed information included in the state school report card for each school and district. The review included various demographic information about the district, a summary of the district state assessment results, and other instructional program information.

The board and administration also discussed the development of the 2018 payable 2019 district property tax levy. After the discussion, the board directed the superintendent to prepare options for the board to consider in the adoption of the annual levy at the December meeting.

The board approved the rescheduling of the December meeting for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17. The meeting is being changed due to a conflict during the district's winter break.

The board entered into executive session at 7:43 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, and performance of specific employees and returned to regular session 15 minutes later at 7:58 p.m.

At that time, the board chose to hire Lori Eaton as a middle school secretary for the 2019-2020 school year.
