MARION -- Hundreds of American flags now line the sidewalk in front of the Heartland Regional Medical Center. The flags were installed Tuesday to help honor Veterans Day, which is Sunday. The row of flags has been dubbed the "Trail of Heroes."

Each flag represents a veteran here in Southern Illinois. The flag display will remain through Monday.

The hospital's auxiliary has been accepting donations from the public in exchange for sponsoring a flag. All proceeds raised go toward auxiliary scholarships for high school seniors.
