HARRISBURG -- Students from 10 southern Illinois schools converged Monday along the sidewalks surrounding Harrisburg Middle School to display their artistic talents while competing in the annual chalk contest sponsored by Harrisburg High School's art department.
HHS art teacher Natalie Dunk said the contest originally was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27, but fall rains caused her to postpone it to Monday, when students could take advantage of dry sidewalks and summerlike temperatures.
"I am happy we moved the contest from Friday and used our rain date, because the weather (Monday) was beautiful," Dunk said.
One team from Carmi took first place; two Carterville teams won second and the Teacher's Choice award. A Cobden team took third-place honors.
