MARION -- If you're among the Williamson County residents who have chosen to vote early in this midterm election and think perhaps you are among a much larger number of locals doing so, you are not wrong.

According to Williamson County County Clerk Amanda Barnes, this is the biggest turnout of early voters for a nonpresidential election cycle she's seen in the six years she's headed up that office and in the 25 years she has worked there.

"For a midterm election, I've never seen this many people vote early."

Barnes said that by midday Tuesday, "we've already had over 5,000 people vote early and still have five more days that they can vote early before Election Day Nov. 6."

At such a rate, the early voter numbers for the county could be nearly double of the last midterm election four years ago.

A woman standing in line Tuesday to vote early at the Williamson County Clerk's Office, located in the Administrative Building, 407 N. Monroe St., was overheard telling the gentleman behind her, "This is the second time I've been up here to try and vote. When I came last week, the line was so long I just couldn't wait!"
