HARRISBURG -- Machine operators continued to work at the site of Harrisburg's future McDonald's restaurant Monday, cleaning up and reusing old pavement and foundation material.

The new restaurant is expected to open later this year.

Site supervisor Rick Waldron said existing material, much of which is in a large pile, is being ground up and will be reused at the new site.

"This is a process that minimizes waste by recycling material," Waldron said.

Large trackhoes can be seen loading the material, which appears mostly to be old chunks of concrete or similar material, onto a conveyor. The conveyor then sends the material through a grinder, which drops the ground substance into a pile. Another trackhoe then scoops and spreads the material as needed.

Moreland/Bishop McDonald's, which owns the Harrisburg restaurant, recently unveiled two other rebuilt restaurants in the region. The Carmi McDonald's reopened earlier in October, and the 51 South McDonald's in Carbondale celebrated its grand opening Thursday, Oct. 18.
