MARION -- Williamson County Fair Queen Joelle Shelton is one of several fair queens across the Midwest that have joined the "10 Gallon Challenge."

The challenge was originated by Ty Higgins, a farm broadcaster with Ohio AG Net.

"As a farm broadcaster, I sometimes feel helpless as I report on all of the challenges our farmers across the country are facing these days," wrote Higgins in an online blog in August. "Among those struggling the most are dairy farmers. Because of major issues beyond their control, most dairies will find it impossible to make a profit this year."

Higgins offered up the challenge to consumers, suggesting they buy 10 gallons of milk and donate it to food pantries.

Shelton spent part of her weekend fulfilling the challenge, passed to her from Alexi Bladel, the 2018 Miss Winnebago County Fair Queen. Shelton delivered her 10 gallons of milk to the Marion Ministerial Alliance.

"I now pass on the challenge to my junior miss and little miss, Savannah Roth and Taylor Gregory," said Shelton via a video from the MMA.
