Juanita Varnell Sloan, 81, of Monticello, Ark., formerly of Dumas, Ark., passed away Sept. 12, 2018.

She was born June 6, 1937 in Paris, Arkansas and was the daughter of the late Walter Harrison Varnell and Allie Erin Harrison Varnell. Her parents; husband, Commodore Sloan; daughter Linda Gail Rainwater; brothers Boyd Lee Varnell, Norman Varnell, William Walter Varnell; and sisters, Hazel Sharp, Eula and Beulah Lemonds all preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sloan was a member of Tabernacle of Faith Church in McGehee, a homemaker and retired from Dumas Elementary School after 25 years in the lunchroom.

Survivors include her son, Ed "Bubba" (Becky) Sloan Jr. of Du Quoin; daughters, Janet Louise Sloan of Cord, Arkansas and Tommie Sue (the Rev. Jack) Hill of Monticello, Arkansas; two brothers, Martin Harrison (Daisey) Varnell of Batesville, Arkansas and Donald Ray (Becky) Varnell of Dumas, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren, Damon (Janyce) Rainwater, Tracy (Lisa) Rainwater, Amanda (Billy) Wright, Jennifer Dickerson, Brooke Stoner, Bryan (Tracy) Sloan and Kimi (Kevin) Cochran, Ginny (Tip) Briant, Jack Hill, Casey (Grace) Hill; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas. The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 at the funeral home with Revs. Jimmy Herring and Ricky Harrison officiating. Burial was in Walnut Lake Cemetery.
