Randolph County Commissioner Dr. Marc Kiehna will represent Randolph County at a conference hosted by the White House Office of Intergovernmental affairs and the National Association of Counties, being held Sept. 12 and 13 in Washington D.C.

Kiehna is part of a delegation of Illinois county officials attending the conference. He will be joined by county board members from across the state, including Jackson County Board Member Andrew Erbes, Monroe County Board Chairman Robert Elmore, Perry County Commissioner Bobby Kelly, and Washington County Board Chairman David Meyer.

The conference will include a legislative briefing from Matt Chase, executive director of NACO, and an opportunity to hear from White House staff on a broad range of topics including rural infrastructure initiatives, agriculture and farming supports, trade and tariffs, employment and energy production.

"I hope to engage White House staff in topics important to Southwestern Illinois," Kiehna said. "We need federal support for levee rehabilitation and certifications, highway and bridge construction, and help to market electricity produced by our power plant. These topics are crucial for economic development and future employment in Randolph County."

The county officials selected for the Illinois delegation are members of the United Counties Council of Illinois. The UCCI is providing financial support to send members to the conference.
