Daughters of the Liberty Bell of the West Chapter will dedicate the "Where Illinois Began" Bicentennial memorial monument at 1 p.m., Aug. 26 at the Randolph County Courthouse and Museum, 1 Taylor St., Chester.

The Liberty Bell of the West Chapter will erect the monument in Chester to memorialize the history of Randolph County as "The place where Illinois began." The monument will be located between the courthouse and the museum. The monument will be constructed of French Creek Black Granite Marble.

The project has been approved by the Historian General National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

"August 26 is the first significant 200th anniversary of our Bicentennial Celebration and we are thrilled to be represented in Kaskaskia," said Stuart Layne, executive director of the Governor's Office of the Bicentennial. "We are proud to partner with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Liberty Bell of the West Chapter and to be where the Constitution was signed 200 years ago."

A reception will follow the dedication.
