Chester teen, 90-year-old grandmother, killed in Missouri crash

A Chester High School senior and her 90-year-old grandmother were killed July 24 when their car collided head-on with a truck in Perry County, Missouri, according to police.

Kara Knop, 17, of Chester, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports. Her passenger, Georgia Lindenberg, 90, of Chester, was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to authorities. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Highway Patrol reports said Knop was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu north on Highway 51 near Quarry Road in Perry County on Tuesday afternoon when the car crossed into the southbound lanes and stuck a 2015 Volvo truck driven by Kyle Salyers of Kentucky.

Salyers had only minor injuries and was not hospitalized, officials said.

Knop was getting ready to start her senior year at Chester High School, according to her obituary from Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Chester High School band and the Debate Team.

A memorial service for Kara Knop will begin held at 5 p.m., Saturday, July 28, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, 839 Lehmen Drive, Chester, with Dr. Mike Fogerson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Lindenberg was a homemaker. Private services will be held at a later date, according to the funeral home.
