HARRISBURG -- Harrisburg Kiwanis Club was hilariously entertained by a duo from the Carrier Mills High School speech team at the April 18 Kiwanis meeting at Ponderosa.

Billy Lewis, senior, and junior Kayle Rister presented their comedy routine that took them from regional competition to sectionals, with a near miss for a chance to compete at state.

This is Billy's first year to join the speech team, but despite the fact that he's a rookie, he has been awarded a scholarship to Southeastern Illinois College to compete on the Forensic Falcons speech team.

Kayle, on the other hand, has been involved with speech events since his freshman year. He, too, hopes to performing with the SIC team next year.

Several past Carrier Mills students have continued their education at Southeastern also. Two of these students, Donovan Valdez and Braden Cummins, received first and second place, respectively, in their events during national competition, competing against both two-year and four-year colleges.

The Carrier Mills High School speech team is coached by Carla Kirkland.
