DU QUOIN -- A total of 406 area residents participated in the discounted lab testing program at Marshall Browning Hospital with well over 300 in attendance Tuesday afternoon at the HealthCheck event.

The lab testing was provided at a reduced cost of $40 and included a complete metabolic profile, complete blood count, Lipid Profile (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL, HDL), Thyroid Function Screen (TSH), Diabetic Screen (HA1C), vitamin D, and Prostate Cancer Screen (PSA) for men.

Those who participated in the lab testing could pick up their results at the event with the opportunity to meet with a medical provider to explain the results.

"We were extremely pleased that hundreds of individuals met with a provider," said Pam Logan, Director of Marketing and Patient Relations. "During this process, many health issues were identified and most importantly, newly diagnosed conditions were found and addressed."

Logan said that high blood pressure was a prevailing condition among several participants and they were encouraged to seek immediate care with their provider.

Logan said participants were provided other free screenings at the event, along with many booths displaying valuable services that the hospital provides. In addition, participants received goody bags and an assortment of delicious sandwiches and healthy snacks.

Several door prizes were given. The winners included: Loyann Lantsy (Amazon Echo), Ken Scaglione (Samsung Galaxy Tablet), Naomi Lewis (insulated cups), Suzy Pullum (hanging basket), Donna Boros (hanging basket), Mary Peradoto (hanging basket), Jerry Williams (bag of assorted goodies), Cathy O'Rourke (violet plant), and Sis Eichkorn (spider plant).

"The event was a huge success and I hope those who attended were educated and inspired to enhance their overall health by the many booths and testing we provided at a very affordable rate," said hospital CEO Dan Eaves,

The providers who explained lab results included physicians, a pharmacist, nurse practitioners and a physician assistant.
