Trips for Kids -- River Ratz Cycling is gearing up for its third annual Bike Safety & Helmet Giveaway with the Chester Police Departments C.O.P.S. program.

Each spring, the successful police outreach program goes into every fifth grade classroom in Chester. TFK-River Ratz conducts two classes on bicycle safety, as well as some hands-on bike drills and games.

Thanks to many donations from the community, River Ratz Cycling has been able to give each child a free, quality bike helmet.

The goal is to keep kids interested in cycling safely into adulthood, which means wearing a helmet. Up to 85 percent of all cycling deaths are due to head injuries, and less than 48 percent of kids below the age of 12 wear helmets nationally.

Donation toward the project is appreciated. If you'd like to contribute, make a check payable to "TFK-River Ratz Cycling, Inc." and mail to TFK-River Ratz, 3136 State Rte. 150, Chester, IL 62233, or call or text (618) 615-2885 and representatives will come by and pick it up.
