West Frankfort man indicted on federal drug charges

A federal grand jury has charged a Franklin County resident with methamphetamine-related offenses.

U.S. Attorney Donald S. Boyce announced Dec. 20 that Carl L. Darnell, 50, of West Frankfort has been charged in a nine-count indictment with possessing pseudoephedrine pills with the intent that they be used to manufacture methamphetamine.

If convicted, Darnell faces up to 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for each count. Darnell is being held without bond. The investigation was conducted by the Illinois State Police, the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, the Sesser Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Energy Police Department, the West Frankfort Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
