Pinckneyville leaders today will place the final panel on a new new solar array designed to power the city's wastewater treatment facility.

The ceremonial installation of the final solar panel at Pinckneyville's East Wastewater Treatment Plant will take place at noon, Dec. 8.

The new 424 kW solar array is being installed by StraightUp Solar, which partnered with Pyramid Electric of Fairview Heights.

"This is a great project for Pinckneyville," City Clerk Larry West said in a prepared release. "By using solar power at our wastewater treatment facility, we are using a sustainable energy source that will help us save taxpayers' dollars by reducing our energy costs over the long term."

The event today will feature a brief presentation about the project and a tour of the site, located at 3814 Amber Dr.
