A 56-year-old Red Bud man suffered fatal injuries in a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of State Route 154 and Prairie Road between Red Bud and Baldwin on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Illinois State Police's preliminary accident report, a 2012 Nissan Altima being driven by Kevin Lee Crites was traveling northbound on Prairie Road approaching the intersection with Route 154.
Also approaching the intersection on Route 154 was an eastbound 2012 Honda Crosstour driven by 32-year-old Martin S. Miller, of Baldwin.
Police say Crites failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and the Altima entered the highway, where it was struck on the driver's side by the Crosstour.
After the collision, both vehicles exited the northeast corner of the intersection. Crites was pronounced dead at the scene by Randolph County Coroner Carlos Barbour.
A passenger in Crites' vehicle, 61-year-old Kathryn J. Crites, of Red Bud, received incapacitating injuries and was transported from the scene to a local hospital and then flown to a regional hospital.
Miller received non-incapacitating injuries and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital.
An ISP crash reconstructionist unit is continuing to investigate the accident, which was reported at 1:40 p.m.
