HARRISBURG -- Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek announced Thursday at the city council meeting that a Harrisburg businessman plans to build a three-story hotel on the corner of the Illinois 13 Bypass and Veterans Drive.

"Local businessman Dennis Murphy has asked me to make this announcement. He is coordinating a financial group which will be building a new hotel in Harrisburg in the very near future," McPeek said. "The exact date for the groundbreaking has not been set yet. The project will be a three-story 34-room hotel located at the corner of the Bypass and Veterans Drive and will be called Cobblestone Hotel."

McPeek said the news has a positive economic impact on the city.

"This will create additional jobs and sales tax revenue for Harrisburg. This is such an exciting event and will be a great benefit to Harrisburg," he said. "Thank you, Dennis, for helping Harrisburg grow. I and the rest of the council are in full support of your venture."

McPeek said Murphy also is seeking additional investors for the project.
