Man hit by car to be buried in Herrin

HARRISBURG -- A 53-year-old man who was struck by a car Monday night and later died has been identified by Harrisburg Police Department.
According to Chief David Morris, the man was Steven Ray Hess, formerly of Marion and Herrin. Hess was struck by a car about 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of East Sloan Street and Commercial Street.
When emergency personnel arrived to the scene, Hess was not responsive. He was taken by Air Evac to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, where he died about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
An investigation is pending.
A funeral service for Hess is at 1 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with burial to follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m.
