Melissa "Missy" Meyer is coming back to Chester High School.
Less than a month after accepting the resignation of principal Sarah Gass in a special meeting on May 26, the Chester District 139 Board of Education picked Meyer as the next leader of CHS during its regular June meeting on June 15.
Meyer - who earned her Masters of Arts degree in Education from McKendree University in May and has two children attending CHS - steps into the principal's role after two years with the Perandoe Special Education District.
"They really allowed me to do a lot of administration pieces and to see their approach to education and how it was different opposed to the other administrators I had worked with, I learned a ton in my two years," Meyer said. "Without being there, I would never be ready to be the principal now."
Meyer had also previously been a teacher at the high school - spending 14 years teaching health education, special education, biology and other topics - and is a CHS alumnus in the Class of 1990.
