CHESTER -- The annual Chester Memorial Day ceremony was hosted by and held at the American Legion Post 487 this year, with Illinois POW/MIA Committee Vice Chairman Samuel Rice as the featured speaker.

"We offer this tribute to those Americans of our Armed Forces who gave their lives to preserve our freedom during times of war and peace," said American Legion Post 487 Commander Jeff Warhausen. "Let us honor the memory of those men and women by continuing the pursuit of peace."

Warhausen recognized all "Gold Star" families who have lost loved ones to war or other armed forces-related deaths. Members of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary prepared meals, handed out small American flags, poppies and programs to visitors and The Rev. Mike Fogerson, from the First Baptist Church, delivered the invocation and benediction.
