The following incidents were obtained from Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones. Note that arrests/charges are allegations only, not findings of guilt.
Deputies responded at 1:31 p.m. to a crash on Illinois 37 at Yellow Banks Road. A 2005 Ford pickup driven by Adam S. Parks, 34, of West Frankfort was northbound and failed to reduce speed to avoid rear-ending a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Cierra G. Norman, 30, of Carterville. The Focus was stopped in traffic, attempting to negotiate a left turn. There were no injuries, but Parks was cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and vehicle registration violations.
Deputies responded at 8:30 p.m. to a crash on Dillard Road near Freeman Spur. A 1984 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by James F. Walker, 58, of Freeman Spur, had apparently been westbound when he lost control and traveled into a ditch on the south side of the road, overturning. West Frankfort Fire E.M.S. also responded. Walker received major injuries and was airlifted to a St. Louis-area hospital. The crash is still under investigation.
Deputies arrested Jason Lee Kelley, 38, of Thompsonville; and Shane D. Chapman, 22, of Thompsonville following a traffic stop at 10:16 a.m. in West Frankfort . Kelley was charged with felony theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Chapman was charged with felony theft. The investigation led to the recovery of a stolen chainsaw and several stolen road signs. The investigation in continuing.
Deputies responded at 3:18 p.m. to the area of Yellow Banks Road near the east railroad crossing. The area was closed at that time due to flooding. A report was received of a white SUV in the water. It was unknown if the vehicle was occupied. The West City and Benton fire departments responded to assist and rescued a man trapped inside the vehicle due to the high water. Carl R. Trusty, 81, of Zeigler admitted to seeing and driving around the barricades, saying he thought he could drive through the water. Trusty was transported to a local
hospital by Abbott's E.M.S. for treatment of hypothermia. He was cited for disobeying a traffic-control device.
Deputies responded at 4:33 p.m. to a reported suspicious person on Illinois 154 east of Sesser. The investigation led to the arrest of Marilyn J. Skobel, 33, of Herrin for driving on a revoked license.
Deputies responded at 1:43 a.m. to a call for assistance in the South Marcum Campground area of Rend Lake. The investigation led to the arrest of Robert W. Harvey, 50, of Markle, Ind., for making a false 911 call and
Deputies are investigating a residential burglary that occurred in rural West Frankfort in which several firearms were stolen. Residents are asked to be vigilant and to report and suspicious activity.
Deputies responded at 8:11 p.m. to a domestic dispute at a residence in CoeIIo. The investigation led to the arrest of Marshall J. Melton, 47, of Coello for domestic battery.
Deputies responded at 12:02 a.m. to a reported disturbance at a residence in Pershing. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Stephen R. Irvin, 52, of West Frankfort for home invasion, battery and criminal damage to
property. Irvin was taken to the Franklin County Jail.
Deputies responded at 1:03 a.m. to a one-vehicle traffic crash on Illinois 37 1.5 miles north of Bowling Alley Road. A 2006 Pontiac driven by Lorissa M. Mocaby, 23, of Benton was southbound and failed to negotiate a curve,
running off the left side of the road, traveling into a ditch and striking a concrete culvert. The driver and sole occupant received major injuries and was transported to an Evansville area Hospital by Air Evac. The crash is under investigation.

David W. Thorpe, 39, of Benton, failure to appear on methamphetamine charges.
John P. Ferris, 33, of Benton, failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine.
Amy E. Newton, 30, of West Frankfort, failure to appear for possession of methamphetamine.
Christopher W. Clayton, 32, of West Frankfort, aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery.
Laura A. Simms, 51, of Eldorado, failure to appear on felony theft charges.
