Free CPR training to be offered

Abbott EMS and the Benton Fire Department will offer free, compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training to the public later this month.
The two organizations will team up from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at the Benton Fire Department to discuss the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, the importance of calling 911 and how to save lives through CPR. The event is part of the Abbott EMS nationwide observance of National EMS Week.
The training is free, hands-on and takes just a few minutes to learn. Compression-only CPR allows bystanders to keep life-saving blood flowing through a victim's body just by pressing correctly on the chest in a hard, fast rhythm. Bystanders who provide compression-only CPR can greatly increase the chances of survival for a cardiac-arrest victim.
There will be no minimum age requirement, although participants must be old enough to adequately perform chest compressions.
The Benton Fire Department is located at 107 N. Maple St.
