It was just over a year ago when the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a report of a residential burglary.
That call sparked a pursuit that included an armed hijacking and ended in a gun battle south of Benton. The suspect, Joshua Moreno, 38, of Bowling Green, Ky., was fatally shot.
State Rep. Dave Severin, R-Benton, on Wednesday presented several members of the FCSO with certificates of recognition for the events that took place April 12, 2016.
Both Severin and Sheriff Don Jones felt it necessary to honor them for their roles in responding to a situation involving an armed, violent felon.
"These officers do great work every day, and April 12 was just another example of it," Severin said. "I know that law enforcement is not in it for public admiration, but in this case, the Franklin County Sheriff's office did outstanding work and deserves to be recognized."
Severin presented the certificates to Richard Minton, Braden Moyers, Rex Roberts, Kyle Bacon, Rick Veldman, Amy Tipton, Mark McDaniel, Timothy McGuire and Veronica Fasig.
