Several people were injured this week in a par of traffic crashes that occurred just more than an hour apart.
Franklin County deputies first responded around 3:23 p.m. April 25 to a traffic crash on Rt. 37 at Yellow Banks Road. Authorities learned a 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by Steven E. Lampley, 43, of Benton was traveling northbound and had stopped in order to make a left turn. The driver of a 2003 Ford Mustang, 21-year-old Nilo A.R. Korolenko, apparently failed to stop and hit Lampley's vehicle.
Korolenko sustained minor injuries and was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Three passengers in the Mustang -- a 19-year-old female, a 55-year-old male and a 20-year-old male -- sustained more serious injuries. Lampley also received major injuries, as did his two passengers, a 55-year-old male and a 52-year-old male.
At 4:37 p.m. that same afternoon, deputies responded to a crash on Ewing Road at the intersection with Camp Hope Road. There, investigation revealed that Stacy K. Manning, 31, of Benton was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox south on Camp Hope Road before failing to stop at the intersection at Ewing Road. A 2002 Ford pickup driven by Chad T. Fisher, 36, of Zanesville, Ohio, collided with Manning's vehicle.
Both drivers received minor injuries. Manning was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
